Why SFX makeup?
As a child, I had a knack for doing things differently. Instead of being excited for my birthday, I'd be keen on deciding what to wear for Halloween.
In 2013, a school fancy dress event came up, and after just having binge-watched the last 5 seasons of the walking dead, I decided to go as a zombie.
For the few months leading up to the event, I trialed many different techniques, researched a lot of effects and got a knack for making myself look dead. I ended up with a large photo of myself, and another person I had zombified, plastered onto the year book.
By the end of year 12, individuals I had media and drama with began a filming company, and asked for my assistance as their SFX makeup artist, seeing what I had done the previous year. I never stopped trialing effects I was keen on perfecting and effects wanted by the company I work for.
What are my plans for developing my skills?
After I graduate from University, I intend to expand on my current SFX knowledge and skills by taking courses through SFX schools, such as; Sharp FX, AACM (Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup) and Kryolan. I am keen on teaching and plan on expanding my work to show how I made certain materials, how I obtain certain effects and what materials I use to get the best outcome.
In the years to come, I hope to have a strong connection with the Australian filming industry, working with a team of other artists to create effects that will be seen around the world on TV’s, in movies and in photography, whilst also keeping in the loop of doing jobs for smaller companies as I am now.
